Summer mornings in Keavy start under fog, the kind that rises off Laurel River Lake and lies in the low fields until the sun finds the ridgelines of the Daniel Boone National Forest and burns it away. That first hour is when DT's Lawn Service likes to be running, cutting while the fescue still carries dew and the hills are still blue with distance. Yards out this way are rarely flat — a slope here, a shade pocket under the oaks, a shelf of sandstone the mower has to read — so every property earns its own line of travel. What we're after is the look of a lawn at midday: stripes running true, the drive edged in a clean hard line, the trimmer work tight around the mailbox post and the porch steps. When the leaves come down over Laurel County, we clear them off and put the grass down neat for the winter. It's ordinary work, done carefully, on the roads between Keavy, Lily and London.
