The week of the Fourth, flags go up along the porches from Hebron out to Burlington, the fairgrounds wait on August, and the grass grows an inch a day. WE THE PEOPLE LAWNCARE runs its route straight through that heat — mowing, trimming around posts and flagpoles, edging the walks, blowing the drives clean before the trailer gate goes back up. Midsummer in Northern Kentucky is thick air and afternoon storms, so the day starts early and keeps moving. When the season winds down the leaves come off the lawns, and the yards go quiet for winter. Every street in town has somebody who takes pride in their front yard; the job is to meet them there.
