April at the Elizabethtown Nature Park is all redbud smoke along the tree line and sycamores just deciding to leaf out, and every lawn in town wakes up hungry the same week. Taylor's Lawn Care Services starts the year there — the first cut taken a little high, winter debris cleared off, bed edges reopened where the frost heaved them shut. From then on it is mowing on a set rhythm, trimming around trees and downspouts, and an edge along the drive that gets held all summer instead of just once in May. Fertilization and weed control go down in their proper turns, and thin spots get overseeded so the turf thickens rather than gets patched. Come fall the leaves are cleared before they smother anything. A yard that starts clean in spring is easier to be proud of in August.
