Rob's Lawn Service

About Rob's Lawn Service

In Dayton the yards are small and the ground refuses to sit still — it steps up from the Ohio in short terraces, and every lot behind a Sixth Avenue brick house has its own slope, its own alley gate, its own narrow gap a mower has to fit through. Rob's Lawn Service works at that scale: tight passes, careful trimming along retaining walls and fence lines, edging where the walk meets the curb so the whole block reads sharp. Spring comes up the river first, and by April the grass along the levee and the riverfront lots is ahead of everybody else's. A barge pushes past, the skyline glitters across the water, and another yard gets finished, swept, and left cleaner than the mower found it. Small yards notice detail more than big ones do — the difference between mowed and finished is visible from the sidewalk.
