About Scotts Company

Midsummer along the Ohio near Carrollton is a standing wall of heat until a thunderhead builds up over the Indiana bank and turns the light green. Scotts Company reads that sky all afternoon, because the difference between a finished yard and a rutted one is often twenty minutes. Their work is the ordinary backbone of a Carroll County summer — mowing on a set rotation, trimming out the corners a deck cannot reach, edging the concrete, then clearing the clippings so nothing tracks indoors. Bottomland grass down toward Ghent comes back thick within days of a storm, and keeping ahead of it is the whole job. When the rain finally lands and the steam comes off the pavement, the yards behind them are already squared away.
