Brothers Mowing

About Brothers Mowing

The Tennessee River runs wide past Calvert City, and on summer mornings the fog lifts off it slowly, the way steam leaves a cup. Brothers Mowing is out in that first hour, when the grass still holds the night's damp and cuts true. The work is plain and done in order: mowing, string trimming, and edging, until a yard reads as one unbroken sweep of green. By the time the first barge pushes past, the lines are laid, the borders are cut in, and the whole yard sits square to the road. There is real pride in ordinary work that shows from the mailbox.
