Bush is where the Laurel County farm roads run up against the Daniel Boone National Forest, oak and shortleaf pine standing close enough to shade the edge of a yard. In July the heat climbs off those ridges by nine, so Lawns by Daniel starts at the cool end of the morning, when the dew is still heavy enough to darken a boot. Mowing goes on until the pattern lies flat and even, then the trimmer takes the fence posts, the shed corners and the ditch line the mower can never quite square up. Clippings get blown back off the drive so the gravel reads clean where it meets the grass. Out here a kept lawn is a small clearing in a lot of woods, and it is worth keeping well.
