From yards on the east side of Berea you can look up and find the Pinnacles standing over Indian Fort Mountain, and in October that whole ridge turns the color of a struck match. B&B Landscape and Design works below that skyline: mowing, string trimming, edging along drives and walks, and hauling off the season's clippings and leaves. Autumn cutting is a slower, cooler business than July's — the grass grows in fits, the light comes in at a low angle, and every edge shows. A yard finished on one of those bright afternoons holds its shape for days afterward. Below the mountains, at the last soft edge of the Bluegrass, that is a good way to spend a fall.
