Mike's Lawn Maintenance

About Mike's Lawn Maintenance

By evening the cicadas out toward Summit and Cannonsburg have the whole valley humming, and the day's last yard gets cut inside that sound. Mike's Lawn Maintenance keeps a standing weekly round through Ashland — mow, trim, edge, blow — the same four things in the same order until they are second nature. Weekly is the secret; grass held to a schedule never has to be rescued. When the sun drops behind the ridge, the fresh-cut smell hangs in the cooling air and a row of yards along the road stands even end to end. Some work is just this: an ordinary thing done carefully, over and over, until a neighborhood looks the way it ought to.
