About Pate & Sons Lawn Care, LLC

April rain moves through Winfield from the west, and when it lifts, the ground east of town toward the Flint Hills gives off that green, warm smell that means the mowing year has started. Pate & Sons Lawn Care, LLC meets it there — first cuts on lawns that have been holding their breath since February, winter debris raked out of the beds, edges reopened where sod crept over the walk. Around the stone buildings and shaded streets near Southwestern College the work runs to patience: trim close, cut clean, sweep the paths, leave nothing behind but the pattern. Through summer it is mowing and trimming on a dependable turn, and in autumn the leaves come down and the whole yard gets carried back to order. A lawn that looks right in this town looks right the way the tallgrass does — even, unfussy, and clearly tended.
