WICHITA SNOW REMOVAL

About WICHITA SNOW REMOVAL

Broadway runs the length of the city, downtown out through the south side, and on a night when snow is falling steadily it becomes a kind of spine for the whole operation — a straight line to orient a route around before branching into the neighborhoods on either side. WICHITA SNOW REMOVAL works that citywide grid overnight, moving from one plowed street to the next, covering ground the way the city itself is laid out: square blocks, wide avenues, driveways set back at regular intervals from one end of town to the other. No single landmark defines the route — just block after block, cleared in the order the storm demands rather than any fixed schedule. Salt goes down behind the blade the whole way, the work running until the grid is covered, however long that takes. By morning, somewhere under all that fresh white, the whole city's driveways show the same dark, cleared lines, running block to block along a street that cuts straight through all of it.
