February on the east edge of Wichita is all brown and bone — dormant turf, bare branches, the wind coming across the open ground toward Andover with nothing to slow it down. Lammon Lawn Care uses that stretch for the work nobody sees: hauling out the limbs winter knocked loose, clearing beds down to bare soil, pulling the last matted leaves off the lawn so it is not smothered when the ground finally warms. Then the season turns and the mowing starts, week after week, with edges cut at the walk and trimming run along every fence line. Kansas gives a yard about eight months to prove itself and four to recover, and both halves get attention here. The first even green cut of the year, on a lawn that was cleared properly in the cold, is the best-looking thing on the block.
