Unity Tree

About Unity Tree

Wellington's older neighborhoods run thick with elm and oak canopies, and Unity Tree knows those streets from the ground up, so when snow piles under the bare branches along Washington Avenue and the side streets off it, clearing a walkway means working around root heaves and low limbs that a straight plow line would miss. The town goes quiet fast once a system moves through — Slate Creek stiffens at its banks, the wind flattens out, and porch lights start clicking on early against the gray afternoon. Driveways get shoveled and blown clear, front walks get salted before school buses run, and the small lots downtown get pushed back so shop doors open without a fight. There's a rhythm to it: start where the ice forms first, finish where the sun will hit last. By evening, the walk to a Wellington front door should look like the mail carrier could still make it through.
