Out at the city lake southeast of town, the cottonwoods go loud in a Kansas breeze and the water throws light back at the sky all afternoon. Grow and Mow works the yards back in Wellington proper while that summer is happening — mowing on a set week, trimming the corners a mower cannot reach, running a clean edge along the walk, and hauling the yard debris off so nobody has to look at a pile. Summer here is generous and demanding at once: grass jumps after a July storm, then bakes under a south wind for ten days straight, and a route only works if somebody keeps showing up either way. The reward is a front yard cut on a Friday, sprinklers going at dusk, kids cutting across it barefoot on the way to somewhere else. That is the whole point of the name — things grow, and somebody keeps them in hand.
