Schendel Lawn and Landscape

About Schendel Lawn and Landscape

From the high ground near Cedar Crest you can watch the Kaw run gray through the last weeks of winter and see, almost to the day, when the valley decides to turn. Schendel Lawn and Landscape reads that turn for a living: the first green haze in the fescue, the moment dormant turf will take a cut without tearing. The season opens with cleanup — winter debris raked out, matted grass opened up, beds edged back to a firm line — and then the first mow, which always looks like more improvement than it should. Fertilizer goes down as the soil warms, and weeds get answered before they can set. Standing back on an April evening with the river bottoms greening below, a well-started Topeka lawn is a fine thing to have made.
