About Ono's lawnmowing and landscape

On a Saturday morning in NOTO the gallery doors are still shuttered, the murals are catching their first sun, and the Kansas River is about the loudest thing in North Topeka. Ono's lawnmowing and landscape starts up there while the district is quiet — narrow lots, corner buildings, strips of grass that only look easy. Small ground rewards care: a tight trim around the sign posts, a swept-clean sidewalk, mulch pulled back off the stems so the beds read sharp from the street. Bigger yards north toward Elmont get the same attention, just with more passes and more room to swing the trailer. It is satisfying work to finish a block and watch the neighborhood open up around it.
