Stilwell sits in the timbered, rolling country near the state line, close enough to old orchard rows that a few still stand bare and gnarled along the back roads in winter. Peak Outdoors works those same wooded properties the rest of the year, and when snow comes it gathers heavier here than out on the open plains farther west, catching in the timber and drifting deep along the tree lines. Clearing a long gravel drive that winds back through the trees takes a different kind of patience than a straight driveway in town, and the crew reads each curve before the blade ever touches it. A walk shoveled clean to a front door tucked back in the timber is a small, particular kind of relief on a Stilwell morning. The routes run the ridge roads and the orchard lanes alike, from the properties closest to the state line back toward the newer streets nearer Spring Hill.
