Love Your Lawn

About Love Your Lawn

Morning arrives early and level in South Hutchinson, the light sliding straight up Main Street with nothing tall enough to stop it. Love Your Lawn works those hours, when dew still weighs the blades down along the Arkansas River bottom and the cottonwoods are only beginning to move. Mowing, trimming and edging make up the whole of the day here: stripes laid true across a Reno County yard, a border cut clean where turf meets drive, clippings gathered until the walk looks swept. By noon the heat stands up off the flat ground and the work shows plainly, a lawn holding its shape under a sky that runs on for miles. Seasonal cleanups follow the cottonwood fluff in spring and the leaf drop in fall, and the same care carries out to Hutchinson, Haven, Yoder and Buhler.
