ValleyScapes takes its name from the ground it works — the river-bottom fields and bluff-top yards that make up Saint Marys — and that feel for the valley's contours shapes how the crew handles snow. They already know which yards drift deep against a west wind off the Kansas River bottoms and which stay clear, so the deep-drift properties get hit first while the light is still gray and low. A driveway cut through a foot of wind-packed snow, edges square, walkway swept down to the concrete: that's the bar every stop is measured against. Ice at the steps gets treated before the first trip out to the car, not left for whatever sun shows up later in the day. By midmorning, with fog still sitting over the bottomland, the yards this crew has touched already look like the valley is easing back toward spring.
