Russell Contractors

About Russell Contractors

Russell's downtown still carries brick and post-rock storefronts standing close together along streets narrow enough that a plow has to thread carefully between parked cars and the courthouse lawn. Russell Contractors works those same downtown blocks and the driveways branching off them, clearing snow storm after storm through a Kansas winter that can turn from bare pavement to a foot of drift in a single overnight system. The courthouse square holds onto shade and cold longer than the open lots at the edge of town, so timing matters — get there early, before the morning traffic packs snow into ice on the crosswalks. There's a specific satisfaction in seeing Russell's old brick streets bare again, storefront to storefront, with the town's limestone buildings standing quiet on either side. Downtown Russell keeps its rhythm through the winter because its narrow streets get cleared before the day gets moving.
