That aerial habit of reading the whole county at once, not just the field in front of you, is useful when a storm rolls in off the plains and starts drifting snow against every fence line and grain bin between here and the horizon. Russell's stretch of the I-70 corridor gets that plains wind unbroken, and a lot that's clear at sunrise can be half-drifted again by noon if the wind doesn't let up.
