That hour has its own steadiness, the worst of the storm already behind everyone, just the patient work of clearing what's left, a pace that doesn't change from one cul-de-sac to the next. Overland Park's residential streets curve back from the main roads in loops built for exactly this kind of slow, careful pass, wide enough for a truck but tight enough that speed was never really the point. Kids are usually still out sledding whatever hill the neighborhood has by then, snowballs going back and forth over a fence line while a driveway gets plowed two doors down. It's unremarkable work in the best sense, the kind that just needs to get done, and by early evening, it is.
