An ice storm doesn't ease into Overland Park politely — it just starts ticking against the windows sometime after midnight, and by morning the brick storefronts along Santa Fe Drive are sitting under a sky full of frozen limbs. Chop Chop Tree moves fast on mornings like that: clear the walk, drop the hanging limb, move to the next block. There's no time for anything slower once a storm has worked through the old downtown, where the trees are as old as the buildings and just as prone to breaking. The work is quick and a little loud, chainsaws and shovels back to back down the block, but the payoff is a sidewalk a shopkeeper can open the door onto without looking up first. Come afternoon, the antique shops along the drive are back in business like nothing happened overnight.
