About Farmer Excavating, Inc.

Oskaloosa sits high enough on the ridge above the Delaware River that a north wind finds every gravel road in Jefferson County and piles the snow into the ditches instead of the lanes — exactly where an excavator earns its keep. Farmer Excavating, Inc. runs that iron through the winter, clearing driveways and farmstead lots so a school bus can still make its turn once the sky starts to gray. Most of the work happens in the dark, headlights bouncing off snow-covered fence lines while the rest of the county is still asleep. What's left behind, though, is a clean strip of gravel cut straight through the white, the kind of thing a farmer notices from the kitchen window before the coffee's even poured. Out here, a plowed lane is the morning's first proof that the road to town is open.
