About Greenwood Lawn Co
Oskaloosa's Main Street is short enough that a person can watch the whole town wake up from one corner of the square, and on a snow morning that's exactly where Greenwood Lawn Co starts, clearing the sidewalks around the courthouse before the shops unlock their doors. From there the route runs out along the quiet residential blocks, where century-old maples hold snow in their bare branches long after the walks underneath are bare again. It's a small-town route, done block by block, with the kind of attention that only comes from actually knowing the place. By midmorning the walk in front of the post office is clear enough that nobody thinks twice about it, which is really the whole point of the work. Winter here has a plainness to it — flat light, gray sky, snow lying out across the fields past the last house on the block — that makes a freshly shoveled walk look almost bright by comparison.
