Moonlight Lawn - Wichita

About Moonlight Lawn - Wichita

Twenty-five miles of highway separate the glow of Wichita from the quieter grid of Newton, and on a September evening you can watch the prairie dark rise up in the gap between them. Moonlight Lawn - Wichita runs that stretch, working north into Harvey County as the day cools and the light turns the color of dry sorghum. Kansas grass in early fall is at its most forgiving — it takes a cut and holds it, greening back through the shortening days instead of scorching. Mowing, trimming, edging and a full sweep of the clippings is the whole routine, done at whatever hour the heat allows. There is real satisfaction in leaving a street of yards behind you, all of them squared away, while the first stars come out over the wheat stubble.
