About Unruh Excavating LLC

Unruh is a name as common on Moundridge mailboxes as wheat is in the surrounding fields, and in winter it's Unruh Excavating's plow trucks working the section-line roads where dirt work gives way to snow work. The same equipment that reshapes a building pad in October pushes drifts off a driveway in January — a track loader idling at the end of a lane, headlights cutting through blowing snow before sunrise. McPherson County's wind doesn't need much to turn six inches into a three-foot drift along a fence line, and it's those exposed stretches — the open half-mile between farmsteads — that take the second and third pass. Closer to town, the work is smaller and quieter: a driveway scraped clean before a school bus needs to turn around, a lot behind a shop kept clear all winter long. It's flat, hard ground out here, and flat, hard work to keep it passable.
