By the time the first 8 a.m. class lets out on Bluemont Hill, Manhattan Snow & Ice has usually already been through the neighborhoods below campus twice. It's a college town's particular winter problem: thousands of people walking, not driving, so a sidewalk matters as much as a street. Crews work the residential blocks around Anderson and the rentals down toward Aggieville, scraping walks to bare concrete and laying salt before the morning foot traffic starts. Driveways and small commercial lots come next once the walks are done, crews working outward as the storm allows. A clean path up to somebody's door before the sun's really up is a small thing, but on a campus morning it's the thing that matters.
