Out On A Limb

About Out On A Limb

Plains storms do not negotiate. A June cell builds up out of the southwest over Seward County, drops hail and hard wind on Liberal inside of fifteen minutes, and by morning there are elm and cottonwood limbs lying across the alleys. Out On A Limb answers that kind of morning — limbs down and hauled away, brush cleared out, then the lawn mowed and edged back to order once the mess is gone. There is a particular satisfaction in handing a yard back looking like nothing ever happened to it. The sky here can undo an afternoon; the work is putting the ground underneath it back together.
