Leawood Lawn

About Leawood Lawn

April along Indian Creek runs high and loud, the redbuds go off like sparks in the understory, and every lawn in Leawood grows an inch overnight. Leawood Lawn takes the season's first passes then — mowing, trimming, edging, and hauling off the winter's litter of twigs and matted leaves so the turf can find the light. There is a particular pleasure in that first cut: the smell of it, a ragged yard going orderly in twenty minutes, the mower lines showing up for the first time since fall. Through the wet weeks the schedule stays flexible, because a Kansas spring hands you three dry days and then takes them back. The work carries the town's own name and tends the town's own grass, kept the way these streets like to see it.
