Down in Leavenworth's historic downtown, the Victorian storefronts and old brick streets hold a fresh snow well past dark, streetlamps throwing a soft glow over sidewalks nobody has walked yet. MP Outdoors works those same downtown blocks and the residential streets nearby, clearing driveways and walkways into the evening as much as in the morning, since a Missouri River storm doesn't always wait for daylight to move through. This is the oldest city in Kansas, and the snow falls into it much the way it must have a hundred winters back — quiet, a touch heavier near the river, catching in doorways and along porch rails. The crew moves steadily through the neighborhoods, opening a path to each door and breaking up the ice that clings longest to the old brick. There's something satisfying about a driveway cleared under streetlight, ready before anyone's even had to ask.
