Monte & Co.

About Monte & Co.

Late in the day the brick fronts on Delaware Street go amber, and the light climbs the hill into the older blocks of Leavenworth, where the porches are deep and the front lawns run long to the sidewalk. Monte & Co. keeps those yards the way they were built to be kept — mown in clean passes, trimmed close around iron fences and stone steps, edged along the walk so the turf stops in a straight line instead of creeping over it. The narrow strips between curb and sidewalk get the same attention as the open ground, and that is usually where the difference shows. Spring and fall bring the bigger rounds: beds cleared, leaves gathered, everything hauled off so the yard starts the next stretch with nothing left over. It is ordinary work, and there is real satisfaction in a street where every house they touch reads finished.
