Mount Oread rises out of the river valley like a long green wave, and every yard on its flanks is a small exercise in gravity. Oread Landscaping works those slopes — mowing across the grade, cutting beds into terraces of mulch, keeping the limestone walls free of the grass that would swallow them. In October the light comes sideways across the hill around five o'clock and turns the whole slope amber, and a freshly cut bed line reads from the street like a drawn stroke. Shrubs get shaped before the cold, leaves come off the terraces, and the crown of the hill goes into winter tidy. Come April the same slope wakes up and the work begins again from the bottom.
