The Marais des Cygnes River takes its name from the swans that once gathered along its marshy banks, and geese still cross low over La Cygne Lake on winter mornings while the power plant's lights stay lit through every one of them. Elite Lawn & Landscape clears driveways and walks in the timbered country around that lake, cutting lanes that curve through trees rather than run straight the way they would out on the open plains farther west. A driveway near the lake gets opened to bare pavement in a single pass, snow pushed back into the tree line where it won't drift across again by afternoon. Walkways get shoveled and salted while the geese are still circling overhead, looking for open water below the plant's outflow. La Cygne keeps more woods and water than most of Kansas holds onto in winter, and the driveways through that timber get cleared just the same.
