About John lawn

Late in the day on Central Avenue the light goes long and gold, and the yards along the side streets turn the color of a good cut. John lawn takes them one at a time — mow, edge, trim the fence line, sweep the walk. These are small lots set close together, the kind where a neighbor notices a fresh stripe from their porch. Nothing elaborate is called for here; only that the grass be even, the border be sharp, and the concrete be left clean enough to walk barefoot. That is the whole of it, done again next week.
