About Ross Lawn Services Inc

The long concrete elevator on the east side of Hutchinson runs on and on beside the tracks, a white ruler laid across the horizon, and at noon in July it throws almost no shade at all. Ross Lawn Services Inc works through that heat the way Kansas crews always have — early start, full cooler, mow and trim and keep moving. Grass on the plains grows hard in June and sulks by August, so the schedule bends with it and the deck comes up a notch to keep the roots cool. What never changes is the finish: crisp edges, clippings off the concrete, a lawn that reads deliberate from the street. By evening the wind lays down, the elevator goes pink, and every yard on the block is cut.
