The last warm week of October is a deadline in Haysville, because after it the north wind arrives and any water left sitting in a line becomes a problem. Noah's Sprinklers spends those days on winterization — compressor hooked up, zone by zone, air pushed through until the heads run dry and the system can sleep. In spring they come back the other direction, opening valves, walking each zone and setting heads so the spray reaches the corners instead of the street. Through the heat they chase the leaks and broken heads that turn up as pale streaks across an otherwise even lawn. Keeping water going exactly where it belongs is quiet work, and every green yard in a dry Kansas August is the result of it.
