K D Tree Service

About K D Tree Service

The cottonwoods and elms along the Chikaskia River just outside Harper keep K D Tree Service busy most of the year, and those same riverside stands stand bare and stark against the sky by the time the first real snow reaches Harper County. Winter work follows ground the crew already knows well — the driveways and farm lanes near the river bottom, where cold pools low and ice lingers longest under the tree cover. Harper's open country makes for fast-moving storms, snow riding in on a hard northwest wind and clearing out just as quick, and the crew works the shaded, low-lying stretches first before the wider, exposed roads. There's something fitting about a tree crew spending its winters clearing ground beneath the same trees it prunes all summer, watching one stretch of riverbank through every kind of weather Harper gets. By afternoon, the lanes near the river are open again, ice giving way under a coat of sand and gravel.
