About Hoskins Welding & Backhoe Service Inc

Out along the section-line roads that cross the wheat ground around Great Bend, the diesel engines at Hoskins Welding & Backhoe Service Inc are often the first real sound of a snow morning, turning over cold and slow before headlights show against the dark. The shop built its name on steel and hard dirt work, and in winter its backhoes and loaders trade digging for pushing, clearing drifts off farm lanes and town lots with the same equipment that moves earth the rest of the year. There is something satisfying about watching a machine built for the toughest ground do something as immediate as opening a road before first light. Great Bend wakes up slow under a wide gray sky in January, and the routes into town are usually open long before most people are. It takes patience, and machines that hold up in the cold, and this crew keeps both close at hand.
