New pavement holds ice differently than the older concrete downtown along Goddard's original Main Street — smoother, colder to the touch, quicker to glaze — so the crew treats those newer streets as the priority on a hard freeze morning. From there the route works back toward Goddard's original core, clearing driveways and small commercial lots along the way. Wind off the open prairie west of town pushes snow into drifts against curbs faster than it falls, and a loader clears that kind of drift in one pass where a shovel crew would still be working through it an hour later. The goal each morning is simple: streets passable, driveways open, before Goddard's commute toward Wichita gets underway.
