James' Tree Service

About James' Tree Service

Girard printed a newspaper called the Appeal to Reason out of a storefront downtown a century ago, sending it to readers clear across the country — a strange bit of history for a town this size, and one James' Tree Service's crew passes every morning on the way to the day's first job. Winter work starts on those same downtown blocks: driveways behind the old storefronts, walks along Girard's main street, cleared before the shops open. From there the truck moves outward, past the edge of town where scattered oak stands mark the old strip-pit country, checking for limbs an overnight freeze left brittle. Snow here rarely piles deep, but Crawford County's mix of open field and timber means drifts collect unevenly — deep against a treeline, thin in the open pasture beside it. The route accounts for both, one driveway at a time.
