In May the neighborhoods around Lee Richardson Zoo go loud with growth — beds waking up, elms leafing over the streets, everything wanting attention in the same three weeks. Lawnscapes takes yards as whole compositions: the turf cut and edged, but also the beds redefined, mulched and cleared so the planting reads as deliberate against the grass. A crisp border between bed and lawn is the line that makes the rest of a yard look intentional, and it is worth cutting by hand. Through the summer the mowing keeps its cadence while the landscape side goes on quietly underneath — trimming back, tidying, keeping shape in a climate that would rather sprawl. By the time the Garden City evenings cool off in September, the whole property still holds the outline it was given in spring.
