Ellis sits along the Smoky Hill River at the start of Post Rock country, where limestone fence posts still mark section lines older than the town itself, and the wind off that open ground doesn't ease up for winter. CCR & Landscaping works the wind-exposed rural approaches first, clearing driveways that catch drift against every post and fence line along the way in. From the section roads the crew moves into town, clearing walks and drives near the old Union Pacific depot and the streets around it. Ground on the south side, closer to the river, holds its frost longest, so those blocks get a slower, more careful second pass. Full daylight over the plains usually arrives before the crew's last stop, and by then the route from the depot to the river is already down to bare pavement.
