Out past the edge of El Dorado, where the ground rises toward the bluffs above El Dorado Lake, driveways run long and open to whatever wind comes off the water, and that's where Wilkinson Construction spends the heaviest part of any winter storm. Those lake-area approaches get cleared first, since a drifted-in drive out there can turn a short walk into a long, cold one. From the bluffs the crew works back toward town, clearing in-town streets and driveways with the same equipment, just less of it needed per stop. North-facing slopes near the lake hold their drift the longest, so those spots get a second check before the crew calls the day finished. By early evening the bluffs above the lake go quiet under a darkening sky, and the driveways this crew reached hours earlier are already holding through the refreeze.
