Graf Lawncare

About Graf Lawncare

Ten miles northwest of Wichita, Colwich keeps its horizon wide open — wheat on three sides and the grain elevator standing over the rail line that gave the town its spliced-together name. Graf Lawncare works in that flat, generous light, mowing through the long summer evenings when the heat finally lets go and edging walks until the line between concrete and green is a drawn one. Cowskin Creek runs its cottonwood seam south of town, and yards out this way take the weather straight: hail one week, a stretch of unbroken blue the next. The satisfaction is in the after — clippings blown off the drive, the strip along the mailbox trimmed square, a lawn that reads as neatly from the street as the section lines do from the highway. When the wheat dust settles into fall, the leaf work begins, and the season closes with the yard put to bed ahead of the first hard freeze.
