On deck landscaping

About On deck landscaping

Cherokee County's timbered hills give Columbus families somewhere to sit out on a deck through the warm months, and On Deck Landscaping builds no small share of those decks and patios before winter turns the same boards slick with ice. Snow moves differently through this wooded, hilly corner of southeast Kansas than it does out on the open plains, catching in the oak canopy along the Spring River before sifting down in patches rather than one even blanket. The crew clears residential driveways and walkways through Columbus's older, tree-lined streets, working carefully around the same landscaped beds and deck stairs they built or planted the season before. A house tucked back in these hills can sit shaded and slow to thaw well after the open fields nearby have gone bare, so the crew comes back more than once through a hard winter. It's a smaller-scale kind of work than a deck build, but just as much about making a place usable again.
