Lawn In Order

About Lawn In Order

South of Anthony the wheat country flattens out until the ground and the sky are doing all the talking, and the town answers with a grid of streets squared up to the Harper County courthouse. In that much open country, a lawn mowed on the line reads like punctuation. Lawn In Order works the blocks of Anthony the way the section roads work the prairie — straight passes, corners turned clean, edges that hold their shape all week. The heat here stands still in July while the wind never quite does, and a yard kept trimmed through both is its own small argument for order. The best part is the walk back to the truck: grass laid in even rows, clippings swept off the drive, the whole lot sitting quiet in the long evening light.
