Kansas lawn and order

About Kansas lawn and order

Order is a Kansas habit, from section-line roads laid a mile apart to fields drilled in straight rows, and Andale's streets keep that same square-shouldered sense. Kansas lawn and order brings that instinct to the yards here, under a name that grins a little and a mower that squares up every corner. Summer afternoons in this part of Sedgwick County bring a hard wind out of the south and thunderheads stacking up in the west, and between storms the grass seems to gain an inch. The job is lawn care held to a line: mowing at an even height, trimming snug along curbs and driveways, blowing clippings off the pavement. When the clouds clear and the slanting light comes back, a yard kept like this looks like the law of the land.
