Lake-effect squalls off the water can drop inches in an hour here, so the plow trucks stay ready, cutting straight lines down streets that curve around the shoreline. By the time Grace College classes let out and the lake path fills with walkers again, the routes are cleared, salted, and quiet. It is patient, early work, done while most of Winona Lake is still asleep.
