The Monon Trail runs straight through the middle of Westfield, and on a clear winter evening you can watch the last walker of the day head home just as Decks on Point pulls into a driveway a block off the path to start the night's work. This is a town built partly around that old rail line, and the streets nearest it still carry a small-town shape even with newer neighborhoods stretching out on every side. The crew works those older blocks with the same care it gives the new subdivisions further out, matching a narrow, established driveway's exact width instead of pushing snow wherever there happens to be room. Downtown near the plaza, storefront walks get cleared before the coffee shop's morning regulars start showing up in the dark. Leaving a trail-side street looking like the snow simply chose to fall somewhere else is the goal every single time out, and by full dark the trail itself may still be white while the driveways facing it run bare to the pavement.
